Afternoon...This is going to be one of those blogs where i dont know where to start. Actual fact i do but the point is from where?
I left Germany on a high yesterday after a good night out in the city (the germans love their drinking so as thoughtful as they are you can find happy hour bars around every corner) only to arrive in Krakow in style. Ever been in a Bombardier? Better yet, have you heard of a Bombardier? Well i have and just to sum it up its an aeroplane that was probably used to transfer upto 100 people max during the sixties. And here i find myself in one of those travelling to Krakow. For those of you who know me im not a great flyer. Two engines, just two engines??? Damn....Needless to say that without any turbulence in one of those planes you still find yourself as if you were on a rollercoaster ride. So after that thrilling ride and for me to be here writing to you means i got in safe.
Onto Krakow now as you might have guessed, its one of the locations i aim to bring into this company. Today i had a meeting with my suppliers, 'happy people' i call them, always smiling and looking to make your stay comfortable, for a good meal and a tour of the city. It started early in the morning where i got picked up from my hotel with a representative from the agency and a guide. I was taken around the city in a 1961, 23 horse power Trabant. Good times. I swear i always like a ride in style, but got to confess this transport is up there with the best of them. Put a Trabant and a Rolls Royce at the traffic lights and i'll tell you which car you'll be staring at with your mouths wide open, drooling all over the sidewalks! Bet i could get me a couple of honeys in one of those.
I was initially taken to Nowa Huta that was started in 1949 as a separate town near Krakow on land resumed by the Communist Government from former villages of Mogiła, Pleszów and Krzesławice. It had taken 10 years to build, the same amount of time to build the 'Arc of the Lord' which is some church with an arc as its roof top (no animals were harmed in the making of the church) situated in Krakow. Imagine on the one hand 10 years to build a church and on the other 10 years to build a city. Sums it all up right there. It was planned as a huge centre of heavy industry. The town was to become an ideal town for the communist propaganda and populated mostly by industrial workers. The guide had informed me that there were upto 100,000 inhabitants of which 40,000 were steelworkers, and looking at the town it was very evident. I was then escorted to an old communist apartment where i found this amasing piece of machinery used to make vodka in the bathroom. Wow!!! In the bathroom!! The story behind that is that the production and distribution of vodka in Poland was illegal, therefore people had to make their own.....in their bathrooms!!
Next stop was to Lenin Square and Stalin Square which was later renamed to Central square only to be renamed again to Ronald Reagan Square. From one extreme to the other. The USA has one over the Soviets. Oh well, i just laughed.
Back to the activities that will be offered from eventhuse, and i had time to inspect the paintball, laser tag, stag kidnapping, boat ride and communist style warm up venues and came to the conclusion that anyone setting their sights on a getaway to Krakow is in store for a lot more than their moneys worth.
By the way, food and drinks here are dead cheap. 3 euro cocktails and 2 euro wines. Any ideas what im going to get upto tonight? Time for a little nap before i get it on later this evening.
Take care now, bye bye then.
